Highlights
Meet Simeon Melaku, DO
I am Dr. Melaku, primary care at UVA Health. The basics of family medicine would be seeing patients for hypertension, blood pressure issues, cholesterol issues, diabetes, sugar issues, and probably 30% of them is weight-related patients that I see. My entry-level job was medical imaging. I was working in the hospital in the radiology department. I became comfortable with the hospital environment, and I began to think that maybe I can do this. That opened up the door for me to kind of visualize myself as a doctor, and I went for it. When I'm with patients, my primary focus is that I understand their concerns. I guess my favorite saying is, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." I think that's part of the reason I am in that position.
