Bio & Overview
Sook C. Hoang, MD, is a double board-certified colorectal surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive robotic and laparoscopic approaches to treat a variety of colon and rectal disorders. These include colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), pelvic floor prolapse and fecal incontinence. She also performs high-resolution anoscopy for the surveillance and screening of high-risk patients with anal dysplasia.
Dr. Hoang is an active researcher in the treatment of colon and rectal diseases and is working on collaborative projects to study and understand drug resistance in clostridium difficile infection.
Born in Malaysia, Dr. Hoang moved to the United States after high school. She received her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, before attending medical school at Pennsylvania State University Hershey College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She did her general surgery training at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, Massachusetts, and completed her fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Hoang is currently working toward a Master of Science and Clinical Research at UVA School of Medicine. She began her position at UVA in 2017 and won the Gold Humanism Award the year prior.
Dr. Hoang is married and has two children and a Labradoodle. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, eating, hiking and being outdoors.
