Alix Paget-Brown, MD, is a neonatologist and associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics. She is the medical director of the Neonatal Emergency Transport System and associate medical director of the Medical Transport Network, as well as a state-licensed EMS operational medical director. Dr. Paget-Brown spends the bulk of her time working in neonatal transport to help our smallest patients reach UVA safely.
Dr. Paget-Brown was raised in London. When she was 16, her family moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where she graduated high school. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. She then moved to UVA for her residency in pediatrics and fellowship in neonatology. After completing her training, Dr. Paget-Brown joined UVA full time in 2008, working in the NICU before transitioning to working solely in medical transport in 2016.
Dr. Paget-Brown and her husband, David, a native of England, met on a blind date in Charlottesville in 2001 and married five months later. The couple and their two children live in the area, with their neurotic miniature poodle (who thinks he is gigantic) and happy-go-lucky kelpie. The whole family is active in the local running and triathlon scene. David is a lector at their church, and Dr. Paget-Brown was recently on the parish council. They all enjoy cooking at home as well as eating out, which makes the running and triathlons even more necessary.
