Biography

Amanda DeMauro Renaghan, MD, is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology. An assistant professor of medicine at UVA since 2017, she established the first dedicated onco-nephrology program at UVA Cancer Center to care for patients living with both cancer and kidney disease. Her research is primarily focused on this unique specialty, and includes investigating the effects of chemotherapy on the kidneys.

Renaghan’s clinical interests also include diseases that affect the glomerulus (a key structure in the kidney that filters blood), electrolyte disorders and dialysis. In addition to her roles as clinician and researcher, she enjoys teaching medical students, residents and fellow physicians in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Renaghan was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. She attended undergraduate school at Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts, before attending UVA School of Medicine. Renaghan completed an internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City.
