The use of non-invasive cardiac imaging tools to better understand the cause and extent of a patient's heart disease. Specifically, his research focuses on the development and/ or validation of novel methods to quantify cardiac function and the evaluation of myocardial ischemia and infiltrative heart disorders such as cardiac sarcoidosis and cardiac amyloidosis.

Amit R. Patel, MD, is a cardiologist, who sees patients with coronary artery disease, inflammatory heart disease, and a host of other heart problems. In his research, he studies the use of noninvasive imaging tools to better understand the cause and extent of a patient's heart disease.
Dr. Patel joined the faculty of the UVA Department of Medicine in 2022. Prior to joining UVA, Dr. Patel was a faculty member in the Section of Cardiology at the University of Chicago. Besides rising to the role of associate professor, he served as director of cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, and cardiac PET during his tenure there.
"I like the fact that medicine is at the intersection of science and humanity, and I enjoy getting to know patients and trying to help them feel better," he says.
Dr. Patel was born in Toronto and raised in northwest Arkansas. He earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He then completed the following medical training:

- Fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at Temple University
- Fellowship in advanced cardiac imaging at the University of Virginia
