Biography

Dr. Sopata grew up in a small town in Maine. She got her undergraduate degree at Duke University, where she studied history and chemistry. After graduation, she joined Teach for America and taught second grade in an under-resourced area of Texas for two years. She later received her Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of Hawaii before attending medical school at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. I then studied Public Health at the University of Hawaii obtaining a Master's Degree. She completed her residency at Vanderbilt Univeristy in Nashville, Tennessee, where she served as chief resident from 2010-2011. She joined UVA in 2011. She is married with two young children and enjoys camping, traveling and baking.
