I was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, NY, which is a northern suburb of New York City. I attended Iona College in New Rochelle, NY, where I graduated with a B.S. in chemistry. After college I went to Albany Medical College in Albany, NY.
I completed an internship in internal medicine at Albany Medical Center and a residency in neurology and a fellowship in epilepsy and electroencephalogram (EEG) at UVA. After completing my training, I went into private practice in a suburb of Philadelphia for 23 years and practiced general neurology with a concentration in epilepsy and EEG. In 2012, I returned to UVA to join the Department of Neurology as a clinical associate professor.
My wife, Teresa, graduated from UVA’s Darden School of Business before we moved to Philadelphia. Together, we lived in Jenkintown, PA, where we raised two children. Our daughter, Julia, graduated from UVA in 2010 and works in education at a public charter school in Washington DC. Ben graduated from the University of Delaware in 2013 and is a writer for a public relations firm in the Philadelphia area. In my free time, I enjoy reading, listening to music, exercising, biking and being with my family and friends.
