Dr. Gander was born in Tampa, FL and grew up in Scotch Plains, NJ. He has a B.S. in Biology from The College of New Jersey and attended Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ.
Dr. Gander trained in both general and pediatric surgery at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. He specializes in surgery for children and is particularly interested in minimally invasive approaches to surgery for childhood diseases. His special expertise include pediatric trauma, tumors, ovarian disorders, hernias and head and neck disorders. Dr. Gander joined UVA in August 2014 and is involved in the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program at the UVA Children’s Hospital. In addition, he holds a leadership role in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
His wife is a nurse, and they have two sons. In his spare time, he loves to travel and enjoy the many beautiful parks of Charlottesville.
