Jose Gurrola, MD, was born and raised in Stockton, CA. He attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN prior to attending Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. Gurrola is an otolaryngologist with a specialization in rhinology and skull base surgery. He completed his fellowship at Georgia Regents University (now Augusta University) in Augusta, GA. Dr. Gurrola is currently the co-director of the otolaryngology clerkship. He serves on the UVA Diversity Consortium and the UVA-SOM Curriculum Committee. Dr. Gurrola is an active member and serves on several committees for the American Academy of Otolaryngology, American Rhinologic Society and the North American Skull Base Society.
Dr. Gurrola is married to fellow native northern Californian/Notre Dame alum/Iowa residency grad and UVA pediatric neurosurgeon, Kelly Mahaney, MD. During his free time, he enjoys traveling with his wife, spending time with his family and friends, road biking, reading fiction and enjoying the pugilistic arts.
