Joshua Becker, MPAS, PA-C, is a physician assistant who’s been part of the UVA thoracic surgery team since 2013. He specializes in caring for patients who have esophageal cancer, lung cancer, indeterminate lung nodules, malignant mesothelioma, and thymus cancer.
His clinical expertise includes the following treatments:
- Esophagectomy for treating esophageal cancer
- Minimally invasive thoracic surgery
- Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) lobectomy for treating lung cancer
In addition to seeing patients in the clinic and by telemedicine, Joshua assists in the operating room during open, VATS and robotic-assisted surgical cases.
Joshua grew up in upstate New York. He studied pre-med at Penn State University and acquired a Master in Medical Sciences degree from Boston University. In 2012, he earned a Master in Physician Assistant Studies from Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Virginia. In 2018, he completed certification with the da Vinci® XI robotic-assisted surgical system.
Outside of work, Joshua enjoys spending time with his wife and their three children. His hobbies include playing disc golf and board games.
