Julia Gyampoh is a board-certified adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, specializing in hematology/oncology (blood disorders and cancer). She cares for patients at the oncology urgent care clinic located in the infusion center at the UVA Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center. This special clinic helps patients who have cancer or a blood disorder get same-day care for urgent medical needs without having to go to a regular urgent care or emergency department.
Born and raised in Accra, Ghana, Julia attended elementary and high school in Africa. She moved to the United States to attend college. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Salisbury University in 2002 and a Master of Science in Nursing Education at Winston-Salem State University in 2013. She worked as a registered nurse for several years before coming to UVA. Julia attended UVA School of Nursing, earning a post-master’s certificate with an adult-gerontology acute care specialty in 2015.
Julia’s first position at UVA was working as a registered nurse caring for patients in the hematology-oncology inpatient unit, followed by working as an acute care nurse practitioner on the vascular/endovascular surgery inpatient unit for five years.
Outside of work, Julia enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She enjoys traveling and baking. She volunteers at local churches in Charlottesville and the Charlottesville Free Clinic.
