Karen Singh, MD, is a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist and the cardiac anesthesiology division chief at the University of Virginia. She cares for patients undergoing all types of cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery and has a special interest in transesophageal echocardiography for cardiac surgery, as well as improving patient recovery and pain control after cardiac surgery. In addition, Singh is actively involved in training residents in various aspects of cardiothoracic anesthesia and applicable echocardiography.
Born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Singh attended medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her anesthesiology residency at the University of Virginia, followed by a cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Singh returned to UVA in 2011 and has been an attending anesthesiologist here since that time.
