Katie George is a nurse practitioner with the Department of Surgery at UVA, and assists in providing care to our patients across the continuum. Her clinical passions include education, critical care and improving surgical outcomes for patients.
Dr. George was born and raised outside of Buffalo, New York, and received her bachelor’s in nursing from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. While a student, she completed an internship in the Emergency Room at UVA, and relocated here to start her nursing career. She gained interest in critical care, and worked for seven years in the Surgical Trauma Burn ICU at UVA.
She then completed the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program at UVA, obtaining a master’s in nursing, followed by a doctorate in nursing practice in 2016. Her doctoral work evaluated teamwork and knowledge retention among ICU nurses and resident physicians after implementation of a simulation training program.
Outside of work, Dr. George enjoys spending as much time as she can outdoors with her husband and dogs.
