Lara Myers is a board-certified nurse practitioner in the Department of Neurosurgery. She sees both presurgical and postsurgical patients in the outpatient setting and is working to establish an advanced practice provider spine clinic to give patients easier access to spine specialists at UVA. Her clinical interests include degenerative disc disease, minimally invasive spine surgery, cervical and thoracic myelopathy, spinal stenosis, and the reduction and elimination of opiates after deformity correction surgery.
In addition to her role as a clinician, Myers is an active mentor. She takes nurse practitioner students into the outpatient setting and teaches them how to diagnose and treat disorders of the spine and brain, read advanced images, and conduct postoperative management and follow-up.
Originally from West Virginia, Myers attended high school at a boarding school in central Virginia. An early interest in healthcare led her to pursue a career in surgical critical care. In 1999, Myers moved from Charleston, West Virginia, to Charlottesville to pursue a Bachelor of Science in nursing at UVA School of Nursing. While working in the thoracic and surgical intensive care unit at UVA, Myers entered the UVA Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program and obtained her Master of Science in Nursing. She was recognized as a Graduate of Distinction.
Outside of work, Myers spends a lot of time being active outdoors with her son. They enjoy boating, kayaking, cycling and paddle boarding. Myers is also very involved in Bikhram and Vinyasa yoga and she enjoys true crime podcasts and Washington, D.C. sports.
