Nishant D. Patel, MD, is a board-certified urologist. He believes in providing compassionate and attentive care to all of his patients. He strives for a multi-faceted approach in treating kidney stones with either surgical, medical, or dietary approaches.
For his patients who have an enlarged prostate, Dr. Patel offers a type of laser surgery to treat the blockage of urine flow. This procedure is known as holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). He has expertise in ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), shockwave lithotripsy and endoscopic management of urothelial tumors.
Born in Chicago, Dr. Patel grew up in Prescott, Arizona, and completed undergraduate studies and medical school at the University of Arizona. He completed his urology residency at University of California, San Diego, and fellowship training in advanced endourology and stone disease at Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Before joining UVA Health, he practiced at UCLA Health System in the Los Angeles area.
He credits his father, a radiation oncologist, for motivating him to become a doctor and to bringing the same sense of duty and responsibility when caring for his patients.
