Biography

Sean Moore, MD, was born and raised in Venice, Florida — the unofficial "Shark's Tooth Capital of the World." He attended Asbury University for his undergrad, UVA for a master's degree in epidemiology, and Johns Hopkins for medical school. He then completed a residency in pediatrics and fellowship in gastroenterology and nutrition, both at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

A subspecialist in pediatric gastroenterology, Dr. Moore cares for children with digestive disorders. In addition to his clinical work, he is an investigator on several National Institutes of Health and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation awards at the intersection of enteric microbes, gut health, immunity, and nutrition. He joined the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at UVA as director of research and now serves as division chief. In addition, he co-directs UVA's Microbiome Initiative.

Dr. Moore and his wife have three school-aged children. They enjoy good food, the great outdoors, the arts, and travel.
