Shelley Towner was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She went to Northern Arizona University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology. Shelley received her master’s degree in genetic counseling from Brandeis University, and started her clinical internships at Boston Children’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute as part of her training.
Shelley moved to Charlottesville in 2014, where she joined the University of Virginia Genetics team as a pediatric genetic counselor. She primarily sees pediatric patients for a wide variety of genetic conditions, but she does also see adult patients. Additionally, Shelley is a part of the comprehensive care team who cares for patients with hemophilia A and B in their multi-disciplinary clinic. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends and plays several sports with her favorite being volleyball.
