Theresa Guyton, MSN, AG-ACNP-BC, CHFN, works with heart failure patients who have been referred to UVA Health for advanced heart failure therapies. She assists the advanced heart failure cardiologist with managing and treating patients who have worsening heart failure symptoms. She also assists with evaluation to determine if patients are candidates for left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and heart transplant. She educates patients and their caregivers about managing LVADs at home.
Theresa is an adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AG-ACNP) and certified heart failure nurse (CHFN). Theresa completed her nurse practitioner education at the University of Virginia. She completed her undergraduate degrees at the University of Mary Washington and Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2019, she was selected to attend the Future Leaders in Heart Failure Symposium by the Heart Failure Society of America. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, she worked as a bedside nurse for 20 years, achieving clinical nurse IV and several awards for RN Excellence in Leadership and Practice.
Central Virginia has always been “near and dear” to her heart. She was born and raised in Farmville, where her parents still live. Theresa has been a Virginia native her whole life, as she also lived in the Richmond area before moving to the Charlottesville area in 2017. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and working on their farm in northern Albemarle. She also enjoys trail running with her husband for exercise, and she loves cheering on her two daughters as they run for Albemarle High School’s cross country and indoor/outdoor track and field teams.
