Yvonne Newberry is a family nurse practitioner with an active OB/GYN clinical practice in the primary care clinics at UVA, where she provides gynecological and obstetric outpatient care and colposcopy for follow-up of abnormal Pap smears. Additionally, she practices in the Ryan White HIV Clinic where she provides obstetric and gynecological care, including colposcopy, to HIV-infected women.
She has been instrumental in developing an anal dysplasia/high resolution anoscopy clinic in the Infectious Diseases Clinic. She also participates in telemedicine colposcopy clinics with the Wise County Health Department and the Health Wagon, which provides mobile health services to the medically underserved in southwest Virginia.
In addition to her clinical practice, Ms. Newberry has taught at UVA, in both the School of Nursing and the School of Medicine, for more than 30 years. She is an assistant professor in the School of Nursing, where she works with graduate students in the Family and Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner programs, teaching health assessment and women’s health care in the classroom, laboratory and clinical arenas.
In the School of Medicine, she is a clinical instructor of obstetrics and gynecology and the assistant director of the OB/GYN clerkship program. She has an interest in and active commitment to interprofessional education involving nurse practitioner and medical students. She also teaches health assessment to UVA dental residents.
