Dr. Mitchell Rosner Video Profile
Hi, I'm Mitchell Rosner. I'm a nephrologist at the University of Virginia. I'm a general nephrologist so I'm interested in caring for patients with all types of kidney disease, but I have a particular interest in patients who have fluid and electrolyte disorders. So, disorders of things like potassium and sodium levels, as well as patients with acute kidney injury. I really love the physiology, the complexity, and the fact that patients have so many different things going on at the same time. It's both intellectually a challenge in order to put things together, but also really emotionally, a great benefit when you can improve the quality of life for people who are suffering with many different issues. One of the unique things here at UVA is that we run a polycystic kidney disease center, which I started many years ago, which allows families with polycystic kidney disease to come here and get their care, and really have entry into clinical trials, as well for cutting-edge therapies. The interaction really just starts with the visit in the clinic. It will continue as I call the patient after their visit to go over labs, and studies, and questions. And hopefully it's a relationship that builds over time that they feel like they can really count on our care team, myself, to really provide outstanding care and address their questions. I like really making a connection with people, learning about what drives them, what their lives have been like. I've now been practicing long enough that I have people who have been seeing me for 20 years. I know them. I know their families. I know their histories. It's very personal, and I think that makes it extremely rewarding.
