Bio & Overview
Alexis Halyard, MD, is a family medicine doctor. Her specialties include pediatric care and gender-affirming care. She provides pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) care to prevent HIV infection and care for people with HIV. She also performs procedures to insert IUDs and contraceptive arm implants.
Halyard was raised by a family medicine doctor mother and social worker father. Her parents instilled her with a belief in the importance of community works.
She gravitated to family medicine not only because of her mother but because of the wide scope of the specialty. “What I love about my job is the ability to provide care to people of all ages and establish lifelong relationships with patients,” she says.
Halyard received her undergraduate degree from Yale University. She earned her medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta and completed her residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She has an HIV specialist certification from the American Academy of HIV Medicine.
