Amanda Lusa, MD, is a fellowship-trained rheumatologist. She specializes in caring for patients who experience joint pain, swelling, and organ damage from an immune system disorder, including:
• Inflammatory arthritis
• Systemic lupus erythematous
• Inflammatory myositis
• Vasculitis
“I strive to deliver thoughtful and thorough care,” Dr. Lusa shares. “I enjoy working with patients to come up with the best plan of care that meets their individual needs.”
Born and raised in Connecticut, Dr. Lusa earned a bachelor’s degree at Cornell University. She then decided to pursue her medical degree at Columbia University.
She shares: “I have always gravitated towards the sciences and found medicine to be a rewarding way to apply my knowledge that directly impacts peoples' lives.”
Dr. Lusa completed her internal medicine residency training at the University of Virginia in 2017. She worked at UVA as an academic hospitalist for two years before leaving for the University of North Carolina.
At UNC, she completed a rheumatology fellowship and served as assistant professor in the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology before returning to UVA Health.
“I am excited to be back in Charlottesville where I can enjoy the gorgeous Blue Ridge views and hikes with my family,” she says.
