Bio & Overview
As a urologist, Andrew Chung, MD, specializes in caring for a wide range of urinary tract disorders, including prostate cancer, urinary incontinence, and Peyronie's disease.
When working with patients, Dr. Chung strives to educate them about their condition and to meet their unique needs. “I have always felt the need to help patients feel better and to educate them about their disease states so that they have a better understanding of why we recommend what we do,” says Dr. Chung, who knew he wanted to be a doctor by the time he was in second grade.
“I take an individualized approach to each patient based on their needs and goals, and then tailor a treatment plan based on as many factors as possible.”
Born in Los Angeles, but raised in Pennsylvania, Dr. Chung earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan. He completed his residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. After that, he served as a urologist in the U.S. Air Force, with his last duty station being at Andrews Air Force Base.
Prior to joining UVA Health in July 2023, Dr. Chung was in private practice with privileges at Prince William Hospital and Haymarket Hospital since 2004. A former chair of the hospitals’ surgery departments, he has also served on the cancer committee and continues to remain active in this program.
At UVA Health, Dr. Chung hopes that patients will benefit from the expertise he has developed over 19 years of private practice.
Outside of work, Dr. Chung is an avid sports and music fan. He plays piano, organ, and (formally) clarinet, along with having “dabbled in many other instruments,” he says.

Highlights
Meet Urologist Andrew Chung, MD
I'm Andrew Chung. I'm a staff urologist here at UVA Health. So I see all sorts of general urology patients, ranging from things like stones and incontinence and urinary frequency to prostate cancer, bladder cancer and kidney cancer, vasectomies, pretty much anything that's in general urology. You know, I was always interested in medicine I think I developed an interest perhaps in second grade. My father was a pharmacist at the rehab hospital, so I often rounded with him when he went in the morning, so I was always around the hospital. So I developed that interest quite early. New patients can expect that when they come to see me that I will review all their history and attempt to explain their disease state to them and what our recommendations would be and to me being on time is very important as well. So I make my best effort always to be on time for the patient. I think I try to be very respectful of a patient's time. I think what I'm most passionate about is patient education. I think that it is very important that patients understand their own disease states and why we as physicians are recommending the treatments that we have given to them. I think that the standards set at UVA Health are excellent. We have terrific support staff. Our operating rooms are excellent. I've been here for over 20 years and I would come here as a patient myself.
