Barnett Nathan, MD, is a neurosurgeon who cares for critically ill neurology and neurosurgery patients staying in the neuro intensive care unit. His role includes serving as a course director and system leader for neurology and neuroscience courses for first- and second-year medical students.
He was born in the suburbs of Philadelphia and attended Washington College on the eastern shore of Maryland. He coached a local high school rowing team while attending graduate school at Villanova University to earn his master's in biology.
Nathan then earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now Drexel University). He completed his neurology residency at UVA, along with a two-year fellowship in neurocritical care and a research fellowship in neuro-infectious diseases.
His wife, Kathy, is a physical therapist, and they have three children. He is passionate about nature photography.
