A fellowship-trained cerebrovascular neurologist, Bradford B. Worrall, MD, MSc, specializes in treating patients who have a stroke or other type of condition that affects blood flow and the blood vessels in the brain. He sees patients in the hospital, clinic, and emergency department settings.

Dr. Worrall serves many roles at UVA:

Outside of UVA, Dr. Worrall serves as deputy editor of editorial education for the journal Neurology.

Dr. Worrall shares, “I have a particular interest in the genetic causes of stroke.” These include:

  • Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL)
  • Familial cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM)
  • Fabry disease 

“My research focuses on novel mechanisms and risk factors in cerebrovascular disease using an -omics approach (genomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, and microbiome),” Dr. Worrall says.

He adds, “I have a particular interest in stroke health disparities and differences in outcome after stroke.”

Dr. Worrall was born at the University of Virginia Hospital and lived in Charlottesville as a child. “I grew up outside of Baltimore. My education took me up and down the east coast – New Haven, Atlanta, and New York City. I returned to Charlottesville and the University of Virginia in 1997.” 

He adds, “My wife and I have two teenage boys. We enjoy hiking, the performing arts, and dining out in Charlottesville and the surrounding region.”
