Bio & Overview
As a urologist, C. Buckley Gillock, MD, specializes in treating conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostate cancer, kidney stones, incontinence, and neurogenic bladder.
Dr. Gillock views the current healthcare environment as a complex, sometimes impersonal system that often divides patients into large groups “in the context of population health.” In contrast, he strives for a more personal approach, taking time to understand each patient’s unique needs and encouraging them to take an active role in their own care.
“By recognizing each patient as an individual with unique needs, circumstances, and resources, we as providers can help them navigate a pathway toward obtaining the care they need and improving their health,” Dr. Gillock says.
A Roanoke native, Dr. Gillock earned his undergraduate degree from UVA. He earned his medical degree and completed his residency at VCU School of Medicine (Medical College of Virginia).
After completing his training, Dr. Gillock served as chief of urology at the VA Salem Healthcare Center, where he oversaw the expansion of services and trained UVA urology residents. In 1996, he moved to Staunton, joining Blue Ridge Urological Associates, practicing general urology for 26 years.
Dr. Gillock has served in numerous leadership roles, including president of the medical staff at Augusta Health, president of Virginia Urological Society, and founder and president of Commonwealth Urological Services. He is experienced in guiding providers to expand their roles in healthcare quality and governance processes.
Outside of work Dr. Gillock enjoys photography, golf, and aquaculture. He and his wife, who is an accomplished nurse specializing in cardiovascular services, have three adult children.
