Bio & Overview
As a neurology genetic counselor, Chelsea Chambers, GC, works with patients and families who have, or are at risk for, a wide range of genetic conditions.
These include:
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Epilepsy
- Movement disorders
- Brain malformation disorders
- Neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia
In her role as a genetic counselor, she helps families:
- Get access to resources for rare genetic conditions, including support groups, therapists, and other families experiencing a similar situation
- Understand their risk for a genetic condition
- Navigate through the benefits and drawbacks of genetic testing
Chelsea previously served as the Huntington’s Disease program coordinator at UVA Health. In this role, she counseled families affected by Huntington’s. She helped organize Huntington’s Disease Education Days for families in the Virginia and D.C. area. She is a past president and treasurer of the Virginia Association of Genetic Counselors.
Chelsea has been a board-certified genetic counselor since 2015. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and her Masters of Genetic Counseling at Arcadia University.
She loves living in Charlottesville and enjoying “all that this beautiful city has to offer.”
