Bio & Overview

Christine Owens, AG-ACNP, is a nurse practitioner. She supports patients who have diabetes. She shares medication options and lifestyle changes that can help patients manage their condition, especially after surgery. She also provides support after surgery to help patients make a good transition to home or rehabilitation.

Owens earned an undergraduate degree (BS) in healthcare administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She earned her nursing degree (BSN) from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She earned her Master of Nursing degree (MSN) from the University of Virginia.

Before specializing in diabetes management, Owens was a critical care resource support nurse. She has been with UVA Health for 20+ years and has over 25 years of adult patient care experience.

“During my time at UVA, I’ve had the opportunity to treat adult patients in various departments, including intensive care, intermediate care, acute care, the emergency room, radiology, endoscopy, and procedural sedation for dentistry,” she says. “These experiences gave me significant knowledge of patient care and of our health system, which I’ve found helpful for my current patients.”

Her approach to patient care is collaborative. “Patients know their health best,” she says. “Together, we create plans that help them achieve their healthcare management goals.”

Outside of work, Owens enjoys traveling, exercise, and spending time with family and friends.
