Dr. Daniel McCarter is a dedicated family medicine physician at the University of Virginia's Zion Crossroads Practice. With a profound commitment to influencing individuals to take better care of themselves and others, Dr. McCarter integrates systems thinking and collaborative leadership into his practice. His goal is to improve both individual patient outcomes and the health of broader populations, aligning with the "Quintuple Aim" to enhance care quality, patient experience, and cost-effectiveness while supporting physician and staff wellness and social equity.
A lifelong Virginian, Dr. McCarter graduated from the University of Virginia for both medical school and his Family Medicine residency. He has a rich history of leadership within the healthcare field and is currently the Medical Director of Practice Innovation for UVA Physicians Group. Prior to this role, he was the National Director of Primary Care Advancement for a national leader in value-based care. His work has focused on advancing value-based care efforts and improving healthcare delivery systems.
Dr. McCarter's career as a practicing physician began with the founding of UVA Stoney Creek Family Practice, where he helped implement one of the first electronic health records within the UVA Health System. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. McCarter is a passionate educator and advocate for the importance of Family Medicine, serving as a Professor of Family Medicine. He co-hosts the "Faisel and Friends: A Primary Care Podcast", sharing insights into the importance and positive aspects of primary care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. McCarter enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his wife, Jenny, their family and grandchildren.
