Bio & Overview
David Shisler, MD, is a cardiologist with special expertise in caring for patients who have heart failure. He also cares for patients who may need, or already have, a heart transplant or left ventricular assist device (LVAD).
He shares, “I care for patients with all stages of heart failure, particularly those with advanced disease. My goal is to take full advantage of all available treatments and therapies to improve heart function and quality of life for my patients."
Shisler grew up in northeast Tennessee and went to college at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
He earned his medical degree at Yale University. He completed his internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University, followed by a cardiology fellowship at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He then completed additional fellowship training in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Shisler moved to Charlottesville and joined the UVA cardiology faculty in 2019.
He shares, “Outside of work, I am an avid hiker and enjoy exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, and all that central Virginia has to offer.”
