Bio & Overview
Dawn Bourne, DNP, FNP-C, HEC-C, (she/her) is a family nurse practitioner and assistant professor at the UVA School of Nursing. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate nursing students while practicing part-time at UVA Family Medicine.
She began her nursing career as an RN in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at UVA Health before becoming a nurse practitioner. As a nurse practitioner, she has practiced in a variety of primary care practice settings, such as private practice, community health, academic family medicine, and student health.
She earned her undergraduate, masters, and doctorate degrees in nursing from UVA. She has been a member of UVA’s Ethics and Moral Distress Consult Services since 2016, when she completed her doctoral work on the experience of moral distress in primary care providers.
