Ellen U Lam, PA

As a physician assistant, Ellen Lam, PA-C, specializes in managing diabetes, thyroid, osteoporosis, and other endocrine-related conditions.

Ellen respects each patient’s expertise about their own bodies, unique needs, and goals. She includes them in decision-making about their care.

“I hope to help educate, counsel, and advise patients to help them feel empowered about their health,” Ellen says.

“Caring for people gives me a lot of joy. I decided to become a physician assistant because of the direct route it provided to patient care and the flexibility it allowed in what specialty I chose.”

Born in San Antonio, Texas, Ellen primarily grew up near Richmond, Virginia. She played competitive soccer for 14 years.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in biology and religious studies from UVA, Ellen earned her master’s degree as a physician assistant from Radford University Carilion. She worked for Texas Diabetes and Endocrinology before joining UVA Health in the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism in 2022.

Outside of work, Ellen still enjoys playing soccer, as well as hiking, traveling, and experiencing the world. An avid reader, especially of the Harry Potter series, Ellen also enjoys working crossword puzzles and baking.
