Bio & Overview
Ellen Volker, MD, MSPH, is the Section Chief of Interventional Pulmonology. She treats patients who have lung conditions and specializes in minimally invasive procedures in and around the lungs. She diagnoses and treats many conditions, including lung nodules, lung cancer, lymphadenopathy (enlarged lymph nodes), pleural effusions (fluid build-up around the lungs), airway stenosis (narrowing), and emphysema.
Dr. Volker is from Englewood, Colorado. She earned her undergraduate degree at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. She earned her Master of Science in Public Health and her medical degree from the University of Colorado.
After completing her medical education, Dr. Volker moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to complete an internal medicine residency at the University of Utah. She then completed fellowships in pulmonary/critical care and interventional pulmonology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. After completing her fellowships, she stayed on medical faculty at Duke University for several years before returning to Colorado.
From 2018 to 2024, Dr. Volker served as the Director of Interventional Pulmonology at National Jewish Health. She joined UVA Health in 2024.
Outside of work, Dr. Volker enjoys skiing, fly fishing, and spending time with her husband and rescue dog.
