"I believe that the person in the body is the expert on the body," Erin says. "My role is to guide and educate each patient so they can be their happiest, healthiest self — whatever that looks like for the individual. Trauma-informed care is incredibly important to me. I strive to be open, affirming, and body-positive for all people."
A native of West Virginia, Erin was active in theater, mock trials, and band (alto saxophone) in high school. She earned an associate of science in nursing from Allegany College of Maryland and worked as a registered nurse in labor and delivery for 14 years.
After earning a master of science in nursing (MSN) from Frontier Nursing University, she served as a full-scope nurse midwife in a variety of settings. Ultimately she fell in love with gender-affirming care and chose to focus on this area of reproductive health. She joined UVA Health in 2022.

Highlights
Meet Erin Parish-Gibson, CNM
My name is Erin Parish-Gibson. I'm a certified nurse midwife, advanced practice provider within the Department of Family Medicine, specializing in gender health. The types of patients that I see are primarily folks seeking gender-affirming care, in particular gender-affirming hormone therapy. I also see folks for their reproductive health needs, such as birth control. Honestly, I didn't expect to love gender-affirming care as much as I do. It's really powerful to watch these folks and assist them in taking control of their lives and their bodies. Each person's journey is very unique, which makes every day special and exciting and different for me as well. In my exam rooms there is no judgment, ever. It doesn't matter what deep, dark, secret or embarrassing question somebody has, I'm here for it. I really like to sit down with folks and learn about who they are, what their needs and their goals are. We have the privilege of having not just world-class minds at UVA, but world-class hearts. I really love being a part of that and hopefully making all of the patients feel welcome and cared for.
