Meet Stem Cell Transplant Nurse Practitioner Hania Bushnaq-Aloul, MSN, RN, ACNP
My name is Hania Bushnaq-Aloul. I'm a nurse practitioner. I work in the stem cell transplant program, and I'm certified in adult gerontology, meaning which I take care of adult patients. That's all I see, and also older adults. I follow patients after they had their stem cell transplant. And I follow them very closely. They come to see us in the infusion center and in the clinic. Basically, my job is to manage their symptoms and make them feel better and follow up with them and make sure that everything's on the right track. My passion is nursing, and I did start in emergency medicine and cardiology a few years later. And then I decided to go do my master's degree and get my nurse practitioner. And one reason I wanted to do that is because I feel like I'm able to offer more care and provide more care to my patients. It is a very tough period that they go through, and we just want to make sure that we are there with them along the way. You want to do everything possible to help them and give them hope. And so that was one reason why I went into this program. I've been at UVA for over 22 years now and UVA is a great place. It has excellent medical care and nursing care. It's an educational institution, which really keeps one on their toes. And you need to be aware of what's happening around you and you need to be well-educated to be able to take care of these patients. There's no question about UVA's ability to deliver excellent care.
