Bio & Overview
Heather Asthagiri, MD, was born and raised in Tennessee and moved to Memphis to attend undergraduate and medical school. She also completed her intern year in the Home of the Blues, before transitioning to Charlottesville for residency training in UVA’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. After residency, Dr. Asthagiri completed a fellowship in spinal cord injury medicine in Cleveland, OH. She then began working at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (now Walter Reed National Military Medical Center), where she was honored to work with our nation’s heroes while directing the WRAMC Seating Clinic. During her time in Bethesda, MD, she married Ashok Asthagiri, MD, whom she had met during their residency training at UVA. Together they have a daughter and son.
Dr. Asthagiri was delighted to return to the Charlottesville area in 2013. She is primarily stationed at UVAMC as a consultant, currently serving in the role of director of the inpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation consults service and as the medical director of rehabilitative services at UVA. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, running after her kids and doing crafts with her daughter.
