Heather Ferris, MD, PhD, (pronouns: she/her) came to UVA after 8 years of training and practice at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. Dr. Ferris treats patients over 65 with diabetes in the Geriatric Diabetes Clinic with a special emphasis on caring for people with memory problems. Her practice emphasizes lifestyle modification, hypoglycemia prevention by medication modification or continuous glucose monitoring, and healthy aging. Dr. Ferris leads a lab studying the basic mechanisms leading to cognitive problems in some people with diabetes. She lives with her family in Crozet where she enjoys gardening and hiking.
