Bio & Overview
Jeffrey Jenkins, MD, has served as director of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department’s electrodiagnostic laboratory since 2004 and as the program director for the UVA PM&R residency training program since 2010. Dr. Jenkins specializes in electrodiagnostic medicine, using specialized nerve testing to diagnose and evaluate neuropathy, nerve entrapment syndromes, and nerve injuries. He has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2014 and was listed on Best Doctors in America.
A Northern Virginia native, Dr. Jenkins attended Columbia University in New York City as a National Merit Scholar and later graduated from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He arrived at UVA in 1998 to pursue residency training, made a home in Charlottesville, and joined the department faculty in 2002.
Dr. Jenkins is a leader in medical education. He has served as vice chair of the UVA School of Medicine Graduate Medical Education Committee since 2017, and he was honored with the UVA Medical Center Master Educator Award in 2020. Dr. Jenkins has also been involved in graduate medical education on the national level, serving as Chair of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM)’s Graduate Medical Education Committee, as a member of the ACGME Milestones 2.0 Taskforce for PM&R, and as the founding Chair of the Association of Academic Physiatrists’ Residency and Fellowship Program Directors Recruitment Subcouncil. He served as the elected representative for PM&R at the Council of Medical Specialty Societies’ Organization of Program Directors Associations, and he is currently a member of the AANEM Board of Directors.
