Bio & Overview
Jemima Philip, MPAS, PA-C, is a physician assistant who specializes in imaging procedures, including ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and CT (a computerized X-ray imaging scan).
Jemima grew up in Federal Way, Washington. At the University of Washington, she completed a bachelor's in biology with a focus on physiology. She earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine.
Before joining UVA, she worked in the Body Radiology division at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She began her healthcare career as a nursing assistant taking care of patients in the cardiac step-down unit. “This helped expose me to patient care, and though it was hard work, I enjoyed spending my time helping the patients in my care feel as well as possible during their stay,” she says. “I worked alongside nurses, doctors, and other physician assistants and the impact they had was inspiring.”
Jemima adds, “With every patient, I hope they leave feeling better informed about the care they receive. I wish for them to have and respect their autonomy in their healthcare decisions, and set realistic expectations for the encounter. Should they have any questions at all — during the encounter and afterward — I wish for my patients to feel comfortable to ask.”
