John T. Saxon, MD, is an interventional cardiologist who specializes in repairing and replacing heart valves without the need for open-heart surgery. He cares for patients with complex valve disease, structural heart problems, and congenital heart conditions at UVA Health, where he serves as Director of the Advanced Cardiac Valve Center and Associate Professor of Medicine.
Originally from Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Saxon studied biology at Washington and Lee University and earned his medical degree at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). He went on to complete his residency and cardiology training there, serving as chief resident and chief fellow before advancing his training in interventional and structural cardiology at the Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City.
Dr. Saxon has spent his career developing expertise in the most advanced catheter-based procedures for heart valve care. At UVA, he brings this experience to patients across Virginia and beyond, combining technical skill with a personalized approach. He is passionate about helping patients live longer, healthier lives with less invasive treatments.
When not taking care of patients, Dr. Saxon enjoys reading, running, mountain biking, basketball, and spending time with his family.
