Jose A Guevara-Cortez, PT
Physical Therapy
Bio & Overview
Jose Guevara-Cortez, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist who specializes in a wide range of services to help people regain function and mobility. Services he provides include orthopedic and post-op rehabilitation, sports injury recovery, and manual therapy.
He was born in El Salvador and moved to Toronto, Canada, with his brother and parents when he was 6. At the age of 11, he and his family moved to Colorado Springs, where he developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors and spent time camping, rucking, mountain biking, and lifting weights.
He served 10 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, including a deployment to Saudi Arabia and a humanitarian mission in Peru. Those experiences shaped his mindset and reinforced his belief in the importance of physical and mental strength in overcoming obstacles.
Guevara-Cortez received his undergraduate degree in human resource management from Park University while on active duty. He earned his doctor of physical therapy from Mary Baldwin University, where he was recognized with the Nancy Morse Evans Leadership Award in 2022.
“I’m very friendly and enjoy getting to know my patients and colleagues to better understand them,” he says. He is fluent in Spanish and happy to practice with anyone who wants to do so.
Guevara-Cortez is happily married to his wife, Elyse, a speech language pathologist at UVA’s Children’s Hospital. They live in Staunton with their black Labrador retriever and 3 cats. Outside of work, you can find him hitting the trails rucking and mountain biking or enjoying a cold plunge at home.
