Bio & Overview
Kacy Peek, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon, who specializes in hand, wrist and elbow trauma, replantation and upper extremity microsurgery, and peripheral nerve surgery.
She has a particular interest in health disparities, the role of socioeconomic status in patient surgical outcomes, and helping patients overcome barriers to obtaining equitable care.
Born and raised in Texas, Dr. Peek was the first in her family to graduate from college. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a collegiate coxswain. She spent two years coaching rowing at Columbia University in New York prior to attending the University of California at Berkeley, earning a Masters of Sciences in Health and Medical Sciences from the Berkeley School of Public Health.
Dr. Peek completed medical school at the University of California at San Francisco, followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery at University of Washington Medical Center, and a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at University of Colorado Denver.
Dr. Peek joined the faculty at UVA Health in 2022. She chose to pursue academic medicine so she can help train future physicians and surgeons.
“I want to pay forward the educational opportunities my mentors gave me, and to have the opportunity to continue lifelong learning in medicine and orthopedic surgery,” she says.
Outside of her career as a surgeon, Dr. Peek is an avid cyclist, gardener, and word puzzle enthusiast. She enjoys spending time with her husband, kids, and dogs.
