Kimberly Higginbotham, PA, is a physician assistant working with patients with sports-related orthopedic injuries and issues at UVA Health.

“My approach to healthcare is a knowledge-driven, patient-centered strategy,” she shares. “I think that it is important to get to know my patients so that I can understand the concerns and how that is affecting their life. The goal is to live better and to feel better. I believe in exhausting conservative treatment before surgical intervention. I really enjoy helping to develop a plan of action to recovery with the patient.”

Higginbotham received her graduate degree from Campbell University in North Carolina. She’s spent most of her career working alongside sports medicine and total joint replacement surgeons.

“I have always felt drawn to help people,” she says. “I wanted to be a part of the patient’s story and becoming a PA allows me to be an integral part of that story by helping to understand, diagnose, and treat people.”

Kim is always so awesome! This visit, she took extra time to help me with a new medical issue, along with my planned guided injection. I have somehow injured my foot/Ankle. It was bruised and swollen. She made the time to check it out and then scheduled me for X-rays within a few minutes. She also checked to see if foot clinic could see me same day. They were already overbooked so she made a referral for me. I now have an appt with them next week. This was all way above and beyond and Kim did it all with interest and care for me as the patient. Wow experience!

I enjoyed the consultation I received from Kimberly Higginbotham during my telemedicine appointment. However, It Is proving difficult to provide appropriate responses to many of the survey questions (i.e. Efforts to include you..., proposed treatments, recommending care provider etc.) due to the fact that the treatment/investigation Is not over. While we do have theories, there's no concrete proof of what the real issue is or how to address it. Again, Kimberly seems very informed, enjoyable to talk to, and I would like to continue my treatment and care with her. However, it is too early to dive into some of these questions.
