Krithika Shanmugasundaram, MD, is a fellowship-trained Hematology/Oncology doctor. She specializes in caring for patients with blood cancers (hematologic malignancies).

Dr. Shanmugasundaram was born in Tamil Nadu, India. She came to the United States at age 5 and grew up in Michigan.
She pursued an undergraduate degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by a medical degree at the University of Michigan. She subsequently completed her residency in internal medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and stayed on as faculty in General Medicine at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Passionate about cancer care, she went on to Hematology/Oncology fellowship training at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Washington, D.C. Her work included crucial contributions to two clinical trials integrating cellular therapy with stem cell transplantation. In her last year, she was distinguished as a Chief Fellow at the NIH.
She now serves on the UVA Health faculty in Lymphoma and Stem Cell Transplantation, and she continues to advance blood cancer care through clinical trials.
