- Research Interests
-
My research has aimed at predicting and preventing hospital-acquired infections and complications (e.g., prevention of Delirium or Central Line Associated Infections, etc.). This line of inquiry has led to an understanding that we can improve survivorship and reduce harm through targeted interventions and a better understanding of factors contributing to hospital utilization, including the impact of human and natural influences.

Early in my career, this focused on reducing the spread of MDRO in hospitals. Through the years, I have developed an interest in the impact of task saturation and cognitive overload on patient outcomes. This led to research focused on leveraging cognitive computing tools to improve the recognition of clinical decompensation. In addition, I am increasingly working to understand better how tools like clinical decision support and visual management can reduce cognitive overload.
