Mahmoud Y Alarini, MD

As a body radiologist, Mahmoud Alarini, MD, helps diagnose conditions by interpreting imaging examinations for the abdomen and pelvis. He reviews images from different modalities including, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound and fluoroscopy.

He also performs nonvascular minimally invasive image-guided procedures, including biopsies and drain placements. He also specializes in hepatobiliary and prostate cancer imaging, and serves as the MR modality chief for body imaging.

Dr. Alarini shares, “I have always been passionate about science and helping others. I enjoy the challenging thinking that doctors face in their daily practice, trying to collect information from different aspects to reach the correct diagnosis for our patients, and find the best way to treat them.”

Dr. Alarini was born and raised in Jordan. He went to medical school and did his residency training at the University of Jordan. After completing his residency in 2013, he worked for three years as a consultant radiologist at the King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman, Jordan. He moved to the U.S. in 2016 to complete fellowship training at UVA in abdominal imaging and nonvascular image-guided interventions, and nuclear medicine and molecular imaging.

He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists.

Dr. Alarini is married and has a son. He enjoys hiking, camping, and soccer. He says, “My wife and I like traveling the world, exploring different cultures, and trying different cuisines.”
