Marie C. Thomas is a nurse practitioner and certified oncology nurse at UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center. A South Carolina native, she received a bachelor of science degree in biology from Virginia Tech and went on to purse her nursing career at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, South Carolina.
Thomas completed a bachelor’s in nursing program at MUSC and worked as a registered nurse on a surgical oncology unit at MUSC hospital while pursuing a doctorate in nursing practice (DNP) degree. She graduated with a master of science in nursing (MSN) degree and a DNP degree in 2017. She then became a certified family nurse practitioner (FNP) in February 2018.
Thomas completed much of her clinical work for her DNP degree in a family practice clinic and gained experience in oncology during her four-and-a-half years as an inpatient nurse. In addition to her clinical duties, Thomas completed a quality improvement project on her nursing unit to help improve delivery of chemotherapy to the inpatient oncology population. She also has been involved in many philanthropic efforts serving the oncology population, including Relay for Life, and she was a committee member for the Hope Ball cancer event in Charleston.
In her free time, Thomas enjoys traveling and running; she has completed both full and half marathons.
