Bio & Overview
As a speech-language pathologist, Mark Evans guides patients and their families who are struggling with speech, language, voice, and cognitive disorders.
He works with people who have a wide range of conditions. These include: aphasia, stroke, traumatic brain injury, mild cognitive impairment, Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative diseases, including primary progressive aphasia.
“Communication is essential to sharing our lives with our loved ones and those around us,” Mark shares. “I tailor therapy to the needs of the individual and family. I help guide them on how to compensate for their weaknesses and maximize their strengths.”
Mark was born and raised in St. Louis. He studied music education at Indiana University and University of Colorado Boulder. He was a middle and high school choral music teacher in Colorado. He studied speech-language pathology at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Before joining UVA Health in 2019, he worked as an outpatient speech-language pathologist for well over a decade.
Outside of work, he enjoys pottery, travel, hiking, biking, and spending time with his wife and their two sons. “My true joy in life comes from raising my two sons,” he shares.
