Matthew Cole, PA, is an orthopedic surgery physician assistant. He directs care for people having surgery, physical therapy, injections and other treatments.

“Patients know their bodies best and are able to give great clues and insight into what’s going on,” he says. “My goal is to thoughtfully listen to what the patient tells me so we can figure out the best way to move forward with treatment.”

Matthew grew up in rural northwestern Pennsylvania and is the oldest of four children. He enjoyed sports from an early age and played soccer at the club level in high school and college.

He earned a law degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and practice law for several years. He then returned to school and earned a degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Pittsburgh, where he also met his wife.

I had never had a dislocated shoulder before so I had no knowledge of what to expect or what I should do. I didn't find the doctors attitude overly helpful. I guess it's hard to understand how little a layman may understand about their condition and how to move forward. Maybe I was expecting too much. He seemed to offer little information like he was going to see what the physical therapist thought.

I have been seeing Matt Cole for the last few years for osteoarthritis in both knees and left knee injections. He is familiar with what works best for my pain and mobility. Matt is a competent, caring provider and an asset to UVA Culpeper Orthopedics.
