Bio & Overview
Merry Ellen Barnett, MD, is a vascular physician who specializes in treating and researching peripheral artery disease and venous thromboembolic disease.
“I partner with patients to listen to their stories and concerns, determine the source of the problem, and come up with a solution,” she says. “I educate my patients on how to advocate for themselves.”
Barnett grew up in Augusta, Georgia, and studied nursing at Clemson University. Although she enjoyed her courses in nursing school, she felt her strengths and interests were better suited for a career as a physician.
She went on to earn her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. She then completed her internal medicine residency and vascular medicine fellowship at the University of Virginia.
Outside of work, Barnett is a recreational ultramarathoner with a wonderful husband and four dogs.
